ON THE MOVE
David and I were asked to help a Forward Edge team with an outreach to Bacacán, Nicaragua, June 24-
July 3. This small village, located about four hours north of Managua
(the capital), was practically wiped off the map by Hurricane Mitch two years
ago and previous teams began rebuilding the houses there. This particular
team poured concrete floors, held activities for the children and provided
dental care. David learned the fine art of working with concrete and
interpreted for those involved in the children’s outreach. This was
his first opportunity to translate in a ministry situation and he did very
well. He was quite an attraction, a "gringo" looking teenager
with a Guatemalan accent.

The dental outreach was very successful, five straight days of one difficult
extraction after another, from morning until late afternoon. I was
exhausted on the last day, but the appreciation of the "campesinos" made
it all worthwhile. Some people walked over five hours from neighboring
villages seeking relief from the misery of their toothaches.

While David and I were in Nicaragua, Sandy and Laura attended a praise
and worship conference at Shady Grove Church in Dallas, TX. Ten people
from our local church were able to participate along with people from all
over the world. They came back excited about all that they had learned about
how to better lead us into the Lord's presence through music and dance.

VBS
Thirty children accepted Christ
during a Five Day Bible Club that we held in the Mezquital "barrio" where
our home church fellowship is located. It was very encouraging to see
over 30 people from our church and some neighbors from the area working as
a team in this outreach. And we are especially thankful for Trisha
Beeman who brought the materials from California and helped with so many
of the details. She was a blessing to our family and our ministry during
the month that she stayed with us.

FAMILY HAPPENINGS
Andrew, Kimmyn and Jordyn spent ten days with us in July. This was Kimmyn and Jordyn's
first visit to Guatemala and we all had a very special time together.
Thanks for making the effort to visit us, kids! Our children are one by one
growing up and leaving the nest. Now it is Laura's turn. She
graduates from high school next month (#1 in her class) and will begin university
studies in January, 2001, at Azusa Pacific where Melissa is studying.
Our home here in Guatemala will sure seem empty with only David.

FURLOUGH
After Laura's graduation,
we will fly to Portland, OR, on October 31st, to buy a good used van so we
can do some deputation in in the Northwest and then work our way down to
California for a Kadera family reunion in Grass Valley over Thanksgiving.
It will give us the opportunity to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary
and Mom and Dad Kadera's 59th. Then we will have three or four more
weeks to travel in Central and Southern California before beginning the long
drive back to Guatemala.
